Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ukko Haahtee! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oliver Fran! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haahtee throws a nice outside leg kick. A punch combination from Haahtee misses. Haahtee throws a right and a left that Fran avoids nicely. Haahtee throws a head kick but Fran moves out of range.
Haahtee scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Haahtee prevents Fran from improving his position. Fran is controlling Haahtee's position as best he can from this difficult position. Haahtee thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Haahtee is looking to advance position but Fran won't allow it. Haahtee seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fran does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Fran is controlling Haahtee's trapped leg to prevent Haahtee from advancing to side control. Haahtee wants to control but Fran is keeping him busy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A head kick misses from Haahtee. Haahtee tries a head kick but it misses.
Fran fails with a takedown attempt. Haahtee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Nice takedown defense from Haahtee. No joy for Fran on that attempt. Ukko Haahtee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oliver Fran. Haahtee throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Haahtee lands with a slapping head kick. This has been an exciting period of action! Fran shoots in for a takedown but Haahtee shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Haahtee scores with a spinning back kick!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fran tries to score a power double leg takedown but Haahtee sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fran somewhat. Haahtee throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Haahtee looks to score with a jab to the body but Fran is just out of range. Haahtee misses with a two punch combination.
Haahtee pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Haahtee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Haahtee wants it to stay on the feet. Haahtee throws a head kick that misses. Haahtee throws an overhand right that lands on Fran's shoulder, as Fran tries to avoid the shot. Fran bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fran tries for a kimura but Haahtee is defending well. Fran thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Haahtee is not content to let Fran control the position. Fran tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Fran scoring with punches and elbows.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Haahtee tries to buck Fran off but Fran is having none of it. Fran wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Haahtee, who protects the arm well. Fran is trying to get an arm triangle but Haahtee is defending well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Haahtee tries to bench press Fran off him but Fran keeps the position. Haahtee managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Fran.
Fran tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fran has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fran tries for a kimura but Haahtee is defending well. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Fran throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Fran is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Haahtee has escaped the position, nice work there. Fran looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Haahtee is avoiding damage well.

A close round but Oliver Fran will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Fran dives in and grabs Haahtee's left leg, looking for a takedown. Haahtee pushes down on Fran's head and hops out. Haahtee pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Fran bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Ukko Haahtee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Haahtee manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fran on his heels. He'll look to pass Fran's guard now, I'm sure. Fran keeping moving, preventing Haahtee from controlling successfully. Fran controlling the position. Haahtee pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fran is keeping the position for now. Fran trying to keep a closed guard but Haahtee is proving a slippery customer.
Oliver Fran has got the better of the ground game so far. Haahtee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Haahtee is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Fran dodges the punch combination from Haahtee.
Haahtee throws a head kick but Fran moves out of range.
Ukko Haahtee is winning the standup battle so far. Fran looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Haahtee is fending him off so far but Fran persists. Nope, Haahtee circles away and we're back to standing. Fran scores with a takedown into Haahtee's guard. Haahtee keeping moving, preventing Fran from controlling successfully. Fran slips nicely into half guard. Fran is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Haahtee sees it coming and defends easily. Fran wants to free his trapped foot but Haahtee is holding on for dear life with his legs. Fran is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Fran passes the guard and advances to mount! The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Haahtee is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Fran prevents Haahtee from getting the reversal. Fran is looking to work his way around to Haahtee's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fran controlling the position easily from mount. Haahtee keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Haahtee is just holding on here. Fran manages to take his back.
Fran has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Haahtee! Can he survive? No! He's out! Fran gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
