PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Boon Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Del Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Baggins might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins (my hero). Boon Baggins has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Boon Baggins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Del Boy! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boy moves into the clinch. Boy gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Baggins regains guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Baggins throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Boy escapes and throws Baggins's legs to the side, diving into side control! Baggins is not content to let Boy control the position. Boy misses with the ground and pound. Boy misses with the ground and pound. Boy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Baggins keeps working. Boy stands up. Boy throws a leg kick but Baggins sees it coming and moves out of range. Boon Baggins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Baggins shoots in looking for a takedown. Boy tries to sprawl out of it but Baggins keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Boy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baggins manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Boy on his heels. He'll look to pass Boy's guard now, I'm sure. Baggins postures up.

Baggins drops back looking for a leg! Boy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boy manages to kick Baggins off! Baggins jumps back into Boy's guard. Baggins trying to control but Boy is working from the bottom. Baggins slips nicely into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boy moves into full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Boy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boy is defending against the submission attempts here by Baggins.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Baggins is trying to control the action in half guard but Boy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Baggins is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Boy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Baggins. Baggins is working for a kimura but Boy is defending it quite comfortably.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Boy tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Baggins has advanced to mount. Uh oh. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Boon Baggins will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Boy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Baggins working for a triangle but Boy defends it easily.
