Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Van Wilder! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshihro Akiyama! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilder lands a really nice looking cross but Akiyama seems unphased.
Akiyama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Akiyama fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Akiyama fails with the takedown. Van Wilder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yoshihro Akiyama. Wilder bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Wilder lands with a right hand. Akiyama slips a jab and a cross from Wilder.
Wilder connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Akiyama has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Akiyama there as he acknowledges the shot. A jab lands there for Wilder. A left lands for Wilder. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Akiyama tries to move into range but Wilder moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Akiyama is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Wilder's half guard. Akiyama looks gassed! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Akiyama prevents Wilder from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round. Wilder pushes Akiyama off looking to stand but Akiyama dives back in and keeps control.

Akiyama is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wilder has managed to free his arm - good work. Akiyama is looking to advance position but Wilder won't allow it. Wilder wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akiyama wants to pass to mount but Wilder is defending the position. Wilder pushes Akiyama off looking to stand but Akiyama dives back in and keeps control.
Akiyama tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wilder knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Wilder wants to get back to his feet. Akiyama moves nicely into side control. That's three minutes gone in the round. Akiyama working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Akiyama tries to advance to mount but can't. Wilder wants to get back to his feet.

Wilder controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Wilder is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Wilder parries the strikes from Akiyama easily there. Akiyama is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wilder to escape.
Akiyama prevents Wilder from escaping the position. Akiyama sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Wilder is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Wilder prevents Akiyama from moving into mount. Akiyama passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Wilder! Wilder is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Wilder is bucking up trying to escape but Akiyama cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
It looks like Van Wilder has been cut. Wilder wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Akiyama pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Akiyama has control of Wilder's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wilder regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wilder is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Akiyama lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Van Wilder's cut is getting worse. Akiyama looking for a guillotine from mount but Wilder is having none of it. Akiyama looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Wilder is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Akiyama lands a nice shot to the head. Akiyama goes for an armbar but Wilder turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Wilder. Akiyama is trying to control the position but Wilder postures up. Akiyama is working an open guard so Wilder takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Wilder turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Decent striking displayed by Wilder there. Akiyama is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Akiyama has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wilder finds it's way round the side to connect with Akiyama's head. A jab from Wilder finds it's way through Akiyama's defenses. Van Wilder seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jab from Wilder. Wilder is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Wilder clobbers Akiyama with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Akiyama with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wilder to score with a decent uppercut. The fighters circle momentarily. Wilder darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Wilder tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Wilder lands with a nice combination. Akiyama backs away looking to recover. A decent looking body kick lands there for Wilder. Akiyama slips a straight right by Wilder. Akiyama shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Wilder lands with a slapping head kick. No luck for Akiyama with that takedown attempt. Wilder lands a head shot. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Akiyama. The crowd cheers as Wilder lands an impressive looking overhand right. Akiyama doesn't seem phased though.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Wilder moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Akiyama is rocked! Wilder goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Akiyama is still on wobbly legs! Can Wilder finish him? Wilder cracks Akiyama with a hook to the temple - Akiyama is on wobbly legs here! Wilder swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Akiyama falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Wilder wins by TKO!
