The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Beethoven fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Petit manages to avoid it.
Petit keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Van Beethoven .
Van Beethoven thows a body shot but no joy.
Petit steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Van Beethoven .
Nice takedown defense from Van Beethoven . No joy for Petit on that attempt.
Van Beethoven looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Van Beethoven lands an overhand right.
Van Beethoven looks to score with a jab to the body but Petit is just out of range.

and Petit decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Van Beethoven 's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Petit is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Van Beethoven is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Petit is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
