Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Jibba Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sunny Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thomas Jibba Junior!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sunny Day!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jibba Junior drives through with a takedown into Day's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Jibba Junior throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Jibba Junior got a little sloppy there for a moment and Day has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jibba Junior has managed to get both his arms back between Day's legs - danger averted.

Day is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jibba Junior is aware though and is defending well.

Day postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jibba Junior is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Day, into his guard.

Day wants to improve his position but Jibba Junior is controlling well.
Jibba Junior perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Jibba Junior wants to pass to mount but Day is defending the position.
Jibba Junior tries to stand but can't do so whilst Day controls his leg.
Jibba Junior content to control rather than advance.
Day regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Jibba Junior.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Day trying to keep a closed guard but Jibba Junior is proving a slippery customer.
Jibba Junior has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jibba Junior wants to control from the top but Day keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Day looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jibba Junior is looking to work some ground and pound but Day has wrist control.
Day tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jibba Junior content to stall in guard here.
Day looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Day is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Day is working an open guard so Jibba Junior takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jibba Junior moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jibba Junior throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jibba Junior slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Day.
Jibba Junior pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jibba Junior rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Day moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Jibba Junior really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jibba Junior looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Day is looking for a sweep. Jibba Junior is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Day actively working from the bottom here.

Jibba Junior decides to return to a standing position.

Day walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Day fails with a takedown attempt.
Thomas Jibba Junior is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Day shoots for a double leg takedown but Jibba Junior sprawls well. He's pushed Day's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thomas Jibba Junior has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sunny Day.
Jibba Junior pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Day back to the cage. Jibba Junior follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Jibba Junior looks to land a strike but Day avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Day manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Day moves in looking to clinch but Jibba Junior pushes him off.
Day will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jibba Junior closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Day manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Day is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jibba Junior pulls his head out easily.
Jibba Junior uses his free foot to push down on Day's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Day.
Jibba Junior avoids the attempt from Day to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jibba Junior takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jibba Junior wants to control the pace but Day is squirming around nicely.
Day is desperately trying to improve his position but Jibba Junior has a good base and remains in mount.
Day flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Jibba Junior tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Day's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by Jibba Junior there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Jibba Junior wants to control the pace but Day is squirming around nicely.
Day is in all sorts of trouble here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jibba Junior goes for an armbar but Day turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Day.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Jibba Junior dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Day tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jibba Junior swivels and escapes.

Jibba Junior manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Day on his heels. He'll look to pass Day's guard now, I'm sure.

Day keeping moving, preventing Jibba Junior from controlling successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Thomas Jibba Junior wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Day shoots in looking for a takedown but Jibba Junior manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Day's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jibba Junior moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Jibba Junior lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Day backs up against the cage.
Day fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jibba Junior avoids it really well and circles away.
Thomas Jibba Junior has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sunny Day.
Day takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jibba Junior shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Day's guard.

Day is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Day slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The ground and pound from Day seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Day tries for a kimura but Jibba Junior is defending well.

Day tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Day has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Day cracks Jibba Junior with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Thomas Jibba Junior overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jibba Junior wants to control but Day postures up.
The strikes coming from Day are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Day is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jibba Junior is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Thomas Jibba Junior.
Well Jibba Junior has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
