Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eddie Chavo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vova Chuma! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chuma misses with a few strikes there.
Chuma tries to clinch and Chavo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Chavo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Chavo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Chuma wants to stand and escape but instead Chavo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Chavo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Chuma really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chavo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Chavo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Chuma trying to keep a closed guard but Chavo is proving a slippery customer.
Chavo is in close to Chuma's body, working some short punches and elbows. Chavo thows a big elbow that misses. Chavo slips nicely into half guard. Chavo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Chavo fails to land the takedown. Chuma fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chuma tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chavo swivels and escapes. Chuma tries to work over Chavo's front leg with a kick but Chavo checks it. Chuma shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Chavo pinned against the cage. Chavo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Eddie Chavo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vova Chuma. Chuma throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Chavo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Chuma darts in and clinches Chavo up against the cage. Chuma tries to pull guard but Chavo won't allow it.
Chuma fails to pull guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chavo decides to pull guard. Chavo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Chuma is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Chavo wants a takedown.
Chavo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Chuma smiles and moves away.
A lazy body kick from Chuma and Chavo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chuma keeping moving, preventing Chavo from controlling successfully. Chavo postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chuma avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Chuma working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Chavo. Chuma is looking for a triangle but Chavo pushes his legs off easily.
Chavo trying to control but Chuma is working from the bottom. Chavo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Chuma throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Chavo escapes and throws Chuma's legs to the side, diving into side control! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chuma can do anything to dispel that myth. Chavo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chuma keeps working. Chavo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chuma has escaped the position, nice work there. Chavo is trying to get an arm triangle but Chuma is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Chavo working the body and head with strikes. Chavo tries for a kimura but Chuma is defending well. Chavo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chuma has escaped the position, nice work there. Chavo in side control lands a decent elbow. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Chavo working the head and body with strikes. Chavo goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chuma has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Chavo but great work by Chuma. Chuma sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Chavo is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Eddie Chavo dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Chuma tries to clinch and Chavo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Chuma won't be happy with that. Chuma tries to improve position but can't. Eddie Chavo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Chavo is working to tighten is grip on Chuma's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Chuma has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Chavo is really squeezing tight and eventually Chuma passes out! Chavo breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
