Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ceaser Sarney! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sarney avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sarney connects with a nice looking jab.
Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sarney circles away quickly and effectively. Sarney circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sarney throws a jab when Diaz was well out of range. Diaz avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Diaz gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sarney fails to land with a series of punches.
Sarney slips a jab and a cross from Diaz.
Sarney bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Diaz's head backwards. Diaz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Diaz rushes Sarney and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch. Sarney lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Sarney using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Diaz has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Sarney unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sarney connects with a knee to the head.
Diaz jumps guard and drags Sarney to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Diaz has his foot on Sarney's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sarney works his way back into a safe position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Sarney doesn't defend quickly enough and Diaz has managed to lock this one up! Can Sarney escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Diaz on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nick Diaz! Nick Diaz spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a big arrogant.
