Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad Rood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Max! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Max misses with a looping left. Max scores with a head kick. Rood tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Rood thows a left - swing and a miss! A big right from Max misses. Rood scores with a jab. Max acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Rood listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. A swing and a miss from Rood. Rood throws a one two combo.
It looks like Scott Max has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Max connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rood's hands. A nice leg kick lands there from Rood. Rood misses with a double jab
and Max counters with a nice low kick that buckles Rood's knee momentarily. Rood tries a low kick but Max avoids it. Rood keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Max.
Max lands a nice shot that snaps Rood's head back.
Rood lands a jab to Max's midsection. Max lands with a thumping leg kick.
Max looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Max looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rood is fending him off so far but Max persists. Nope, Rood circles away and we're back to standing. Rood ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Max swings for the body but Rood moves out of range.
Rood throws a wild body kick that Max sees coming a mile off. Max tries a head kick but it misses.
Max looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Max moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Max scores with a crisp jab that stopped Rood in his tracks. Rood throws out a leg kick but Max moves out of range and Rood only half commits. Brad Rood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rood takes one on the button. Max takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Max throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Max lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Rood throws a nice looking combination but Max bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Max lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Max misses the shot to the body. Rood lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Max at a distance.
Max shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rood's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Max decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rood, up you get! Max has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Rood cracks a nice hook into Max's ribs. Max looks gassed! A telegraphed right hand from Rood misses the target. Rood ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Max moves away. Max moves out of range as Rood strikes. Max takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Max moves out of range of the leg kick from Rood. Max throws a jab when Rood was well out of range. Rood has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rood there as he acknowledges the shot. Rood leaves Max with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Max takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Rood defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Max. Brad Rood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Max. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Max pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rood slips a jab from Max. Rood feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Max's calf. Rood scores with a jab to the head.
Nice uppercut there from Max. Rood misses with an uppercut. Max saw that one coming. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Max on the wrong end of a nice jab. Rood misses with a lunging right hand
and Max counters with a takedown into side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Max is trying to ground and pound but Rood uses the momentary lack of control by Max to regain half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Scott Max will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Scott Max's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Rood's corner calls for a 1-2. Rood obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Rood throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Max on the side of the head. Max throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Rood gets in close and tags Max with a short punch that almost sends Max to the mat! Oh Max is in big trouble! He turns his back on Rood, trying to create some distance but Rood rushes him, striking wildly and Max goes down! The referee tackles Rood into the cage to end the fight! Rood is one violent man!
