Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexej Stepanov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodger Griffin! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffin throws a right and a left that both miss. A combination from Griffin does no damage. Griffin tests Stepanov's chin there with a solid looking shot. Stepanov shoots in for a takedown but Griffin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Stepanov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but Stepanov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Griffin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stepanov moves away. Griffin tries to sprawl but Stepanov drives through with a takedown into half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Griffin wants to get back to his feet.
Griffin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stepanov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Stepanov wants to work for an arm triangle but Griffin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Stepanov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Stepanov trying to control the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stepanov is working for a submission of some sort.
Stepanov works his foot free and advances to mount. Stepanov looking to control and managing it successfully. Griffin is trying to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stepanov has hold of Griffin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Griffin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Stepanov cracks Griffin with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Stepanov takes Griffin's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Griffin is in trouble. Stepanov is cranking Griffin's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Griffin! He's tightened the choke and Griffin is tapping out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Alexej Stepanov!
