PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ben Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heath Ledger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ledger has chosen Seven Nation Army as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Heath Ledger!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


It looks like Heath Ledger has been cut.

Ledger dives in and scores a takedown into Hall's guard.

Ledger has gone for a leg lock! Hall slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ledger's guard.

Ledger is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ledger trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Ledger keeping moving, preventing Hall from controlling successfully.
Hall passes Ledger's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hall trying to control from half guard but Ledger is working away.
Ledger wants to sweep but Hall has passed to side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hall tries for a kimura but Ledger is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hall stands up.
Hall lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Ledger tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Hall connects with a crisp jab.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hall throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hall enables Ledger to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hall manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ledgeris looking to pass into half guard but Hall pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hall is in guard.

Ledger throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hall uses it to pass to side control.
Ledger tries to buck Hall off but Hall is having none of it.

Hall in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Hall decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ledger to his feet.
Ledger tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hall paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Hall cracks a nice hook into Ledger's ribs.

Ledger gets a double leg takedown into Hall's guard.
Hall is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hall seems keen to control Ledger's posture.
Ledger postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hall is looking to stand up but Ledger isn't so interested in that idea.

Ledger is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hall is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hall has escaped and now he's on top!
Hall has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ledger is proving hard to escape from.

Hall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ledger swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hall passes to side control.
Ledger gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Hall is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ledger doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hall.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ledger is staying active underneath Hall, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ledger ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hall moves away.
Ledger walks into a left hand.
Ledger on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Ledger shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ledger was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Ledger goes for an armbar but Hall turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Hall.
Ben Hall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hall drops back looking for a leg! Ledger is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ledger manages to kick Hall off! Hall jumps back into Ledger's guard.

Hall looking to pass the guard.

Hall got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ledger has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hall has managed to get both his arms back between Ledger's legs - danger averted.

Ledger has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hall is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ledger.
You can see the frustration on Ledger's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ledger is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Ledger is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hall pulls his head out easily.

Hall passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Ledger!

Ledger is desperately trying to improve his position but Hall has a good base and remains in mount.

Hall jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ledger manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Hall is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ledger is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hall has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Ledger manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hall on his heels. He'll look to pass Hall's guard now, I'm sure.

Hall might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hall is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hall decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Hall clobbers Ledger with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hall will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hall works over Ledger's head and body with a nice combination.
Hall throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ledger.

Ledger throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hall tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ledger is in Hall's guard.

Hall looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hall avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ledger wants to get up but he can't break Hall's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Ledger takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ledger drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hall looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hall looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hall!

Ledger is not content to let Hall control the position.

Hall gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Hall ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Ledger showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hall.
Hall paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Hall throws a series of punches but Ledger moves out of range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hall swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ledger makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Hall really felt that one!
Ben Hall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hall scores with a shot to the body.
Ledger is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Hall stalks Ledger and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ledger's face. Ledger staggers backwards, shaken.
Hall checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Ledger is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Heath Ledger has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ben Hall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Hall has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
