PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meridius has chosen Sexion d'Assaut - Desole as his entrance music. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Parker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maximus Meridius!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Parker.
Parker is breathing heavily.
Parker scores with a jab. Meridius acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Meridius fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Parker shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Parker tries to pass to full mount but Meridius defends it.
Parker trying to control from Meridius's half guard. Meridius has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Parker trying to control the position from guard on top but Meridius is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Meridius looking to hit a scissor sweep but Parker is one step ahead there.
Parker in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Parker is looking to work some ground and pound but Meridius has wrist control.
Parker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Meridius really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Parker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Parker trying to control the position from guard on top but Meridius is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We're going to have a standup here because Bob Parker wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Parker tries to clinch there but Meridius circles away.
Meridius getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
The fight stays on the outside here - Parker looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maximus Meridius is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Meridius pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Meridius keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A punch combination from Parker misses.
Parker thows a body shot but no joy.
Meridius throws a shot to the body.
Meridius misses with a series of wild punches.
Meridius throws a head kick but Parker moves out of range.

Parker instigates a clinch.

Meridius comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Parker gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Meridius regains guard.
Parker content to stall in guard here.
Parker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Meridius swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Parker dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Meridius stuffs the takedown.
Parker throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Parker on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Meridius. Meridius obviously looking to wear him down.
Parker tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Meridius lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Parker at a distance.
Parker wants to clinch but Meridius slips to the side
and Meridius counters with a nice uppercut.
Parker takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Meridius thuds a left hand into Parker's body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Meridius is looking to slow Parker down with leg kicks.

Meridius goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Parker scores with a hook to the body. Meridius takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Meridius keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Meridius throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Parker looks to throw the jab but Meridius is out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Meridius. That snapped Parker's head back.
Meridius stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
A jab lands there for Parker.
Parker is looking to wear down Meridius with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Meridius connects with a good right hand that stumbles Parker. Parker circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Parker closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Parker throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Meridius to regain full guard.

Parker is working hard here to advance position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Parker misses with a wild body shot.
Meridius misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Parker fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Meridius looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Meridius defending well as Parker loads up on a big left hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Parker forces Meridius back against the cage and clinches.
Meridius scores with a nice hook to the head.

Parker pulls Meridius into guard.
Parker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Meridius is stalling in the full guard.
Parker is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Maximus Meridius will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A nice leg kick lands there from Meridius.
Parker wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Parker throws a right and a left that Meridius avoids nicely.
Meridius throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Parker.
Meridius tries to land a front kick but Parker steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Parker throws a right hand that Meridius ducks under and follows up with a left that Meridius also avoids with ease.
A cross from Parker lands.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Parker blocks a head kick by Meridius.
Parker jabs at Meridius's body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Parker ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Meridius moves away.
Meridius throws a head kick but Parker moves out of range.
Parker looks to land a left hand but Meridius moved out of range nicely.
Parker misses with a hook to the body
and Parker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Parker just misses with a punch to the body.
Meridius scores with a body shot.
Parker shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Parker has managed to clinch.
Parker scores with a nice hook to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Parker.
Meridius is looking to break free of the clinch but Parker has double underhooks.
Parker tries for a takedown. No joy.
Meridius lands a hook to the side of the head.
Meridius stalling in the clinch.
Meridius is leaning against Parker and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Meridius prevents a takedown attempt there.

Meridius manages to break the clinch.

Parker looks to land a right hand but Meridius moved out of range.
Meridius misses with a body shot.
Meridius scores with a jab. Parker acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Parker closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Meridius did well to prevent Parker getting side control.
Parker thows a huge punch but Meridius dodges it nicely.
Parker is nestled in close to Meridius, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Parker is keen to just control but Meridius is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bob Parker wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Parker takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Parker fails in his attempt to clinch.
Parker throws a shot to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Meridius goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Parker checks a leg kick.

Bob Parker showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Parker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
