PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eric Zimmerman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Carnitine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Zimmerman might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Linkin Park-- What Ive Done. Carnitine has chosen Doro Pesch and Udo Dirkschneider covering Breaking the Law as his entrance music. Eric Zimmerman has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Larry Carnitine!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Zimmerman.

Zimmerman shoots in and bounces Carnitine off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Carnitine escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Zimmerman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Carnitine is looking for a triangle but Zimmerman pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carnitine wants to sweep but no luck.

Carnitine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zimmerman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Carnitine is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zimmerman is aware though and is defending well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carnitine looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zimmerman is one step ahead there.
Zimmerman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zimmerman stands up from Carnitine's guard - Zimmerman perhaps looking for a knockout.
Zimmerman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carnitine tries to avoid it but Zimmerman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carnitine to the ground. Carnitine escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Carnitine ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zimmerman moves away.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carnitine tries to clinch

so Zimmerman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Carnitine has his foot on Zimmerman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zimmerman works his way back into a safe position though.

Carnitine bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zimmerman's guard.

Zimmerman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carnitine defends it easily.
Zimmerman thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Zimmerman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carnitine wants to pass the guard but Zimmerman is keeping the position.

Carnitine postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Zimmerman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Zimmerman is on top in guard.

Carnitine is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Zimmerman won't allow Carnitine to sweep him here.

Zimmerman gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carnitine tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zimmerman swivels and escapes.
Carnitine throws a sloppy head kick and Zimmerman moves out of range easily.
Carnitine stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carnitine wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Zimmerman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Zimmerman counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Zimmerman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown by Carnitine or perhaps it was just good defense by Zimmerman which made him look bad.
Zimmerman lands a jab to Carnitine's midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Zimmerman dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Zimmerman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carnitine pinned against the cage. Carnitine gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Carnitine lets loose with a powerful body kick. Zimmerman will feel that in the morning.

Zimmerman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Zimmerman is looking to take this one to the mat.

Carnitine is looking for a takedown.
Zimmerman has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Carnitine is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Zimmerman has hold of one of Carnitine's legs. Carnitine is fighting the takedown attempt but Zimmerman gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Eric Zimmerman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carnitine is looking to sinch up a triangle. Zimmerman throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Carnitine's body to avoid the submission. Carnitine has instead reached around Zimmerman's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Carnitine arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
