PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Baki Fuma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dong Hyun Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Baki Fuma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dong Hyun Kim!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim tries to clinch but Fuma is having none of it.
Fuma throws a leg kick
and Kim cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fuma is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kim sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fuma's waist but Fuma gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kim off to one side.
Fuma throws a series of punches but Kim moves out of range.

Fuma closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kim tries to escape but Fuma is in control.

Kim tries to buck Fuma off but Fuma is having none of it.

Kim sneaks out the side door and pushes Fuma away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Fuma misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fuma misses with a wild body shot.
Fuma blocks the body kick.
Kim tries to clinch but Fuma moves out of range.
Kim tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Fuma holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Fuma has Kim pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Fuma pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kim tumbling to the mat - Fuma dives into Kim's guard.

Kim doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kim is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fuma stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kim swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fuma wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kim looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Fuma counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kim!
Baki Fuma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dong Hyun Kim.

Fuma is landing with some decent strikes but Kim is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Kim tries to hold on but Fuma pushes him away.
Fuma prevents Kim from getting the reversal.

Fuma is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kim is surviving well by controlling Fuma's body position as best he can.
Fuma tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Kim is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Fuma stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fuma looking to score a takedown here. Kim is defending well but Fuma drives through and ends up in Kim's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Fuma's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Fuma closes the distance and pushes Kim back into the cage.

Fuma breaks from the clinch.
Kim has a takedown stuffed.
Kim closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fuma circles away.
Kim stuffs the takedown.
Fuma shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kim pinned against the cage. Kim gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fuma fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baki Fuma. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fuma shoots for a takedown but Kim saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fuma fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kim sprawls well initially but Fuma persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kim is trying to control but Fuma passes into side control!

Fuma decides to stand back up.
Kim leaves Fuma with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Fuma shoots in but Kim avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kim slaps away a takedown attempt from Fuma, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kim dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Fuma. That did some damage!
Fuma displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kim.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fuma shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kim is pressing down on Fuma's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Kim is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Fuma showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Baki Fuma has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Fuma misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kim.
Baki Fuma is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Fuma shoots in and gets a takedown into Kim's guard.
Fuma trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kim controls Fuma momentarily but Fuma frees himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Fuma misses with a head kick.
Fuma thows a leg kick but Kim checks it
and Kim counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Fuma is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Kim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fuma's waist but Fuma gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kim off to one side.

Fuma feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Baki Fuma overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kim trying to keep a closed guard but Fuma is proving a slippery customer.

Fuma got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kim has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fuma has managed to get both his arms back between Kim's legs - danger averted.

Fuma shoots in and bounces Kim off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Fuma controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Fuma has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fuma trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kim looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fuma is one step ahead there.
Fuma wants to get up but he can't break Kim's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kim has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fuma is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kim.
Kim is not content to let Fuma control the position.
Fuma content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fuma is chipping away with strikes.
Fuma wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kim keeps working.
Kim is trying to improve his position.

Fuma has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Kim gets caught napping as Fuma dives in and scores a takedown. Kim manages to retain guard.
Fuma not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fuma wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving.
Fuma slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Fuma stands up and beckons Kim to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fuma feints a jab promting Kim to slip. Fuma then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kim slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Baki Fuma showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fuma has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
