Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Henk Balhoofd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ula Potku! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Potku gets caught flat footed, as Balhoofd shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Potku looking to hit a scissor sweep but Balhoofd is one step ahead there. Balhoofd passes into half guard. Potku is trying to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Balhoofd wants to free his trapped foot but Potku is holding on for dear life with his legs. Balhoofd trying to control the action but Potku is working from the bottom. Balhoofd wants to pass to mount but Potku is defending the position. Balhoofd is working hard here to advance position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Balhoofd avoids the head kick by Potku.
Balhoofd shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Potku pinned against the cage. Potku gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Potku misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Potku tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Potku doesn't succeed with the takedown and Balhoofd counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Balhoofd is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Balhoofd is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Potku has managed to free his arm - good work. Balhoofd is breathing heavily. Potku manages to get to full guard.
Potku is trying to control the position but Balhoofd postures up. Balhoofd looking to pass the guard. Potku is trying to keep Balhoofd in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Potku trying to keep a closed guard but Balhoofd is proving a slippery customer.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Balhoofd closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Balhoofd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Potku is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Balhoofd working away. Balhoofd has hold of Potku's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Potku tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Balhoofd cranks the arm and Potku screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Potku, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Henk Balhoofd!
