Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mauricio Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Big! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Big dives in and grabs Rua's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes down on Big's head and hops out. Rua looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Big decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Big throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Big lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Rua could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Big scoring with strikes to the body and head. Big is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rua defends it well. Big is pressing down on Rua's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rua is holding on for now. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rua is defending against the submission attempts here by Big.

That's one minute gone in the round. Big is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rua sees it coming and defends easily. Big working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Big is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Big is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rua has managed to free his arm - good work. Big thows a huge punch but Rua dodges it nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Big lands with a punch from half guard. Big scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Big is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Big working Rua over with strikes. Big winds up and cracks Rua with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Big is working for a submission of some sort.
Rua might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Big throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua lands a couple of sideways elbows. Rua won't allow Big to pass to mount. Big seems to be looking for submissions.
Big looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Big is nestled in close to Rua, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rua missing with punches from the bottom.

John Big dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Big fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Big bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Big scores with punches from side control. Big is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rua is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Rua sneaks back into half guard. Big landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Big seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Rua is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
