PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Jules (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Lloyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lloyd has chosen The Hives - Tick Tick Boom as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gregory Jules!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tom Lloyd!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lloyd misses with a head kick.
Jules throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Lloyd shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lloyd was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Jules wants to control but Lloyd is having none of it.
Jules is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lloyd is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Jules throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lloyd.
Jules throws a sloppy head kick and Lloyd moves out of range easily.
Lloyd will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jules lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Lloyd misses with a few strikes there.

Lloyd shoots in for a takedown but Jules shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Jules lands a big head kick that sends Lloyd tumbling to the mat! Jules takes a step backwards and waves Lloyd back to his feet - he wants the finish!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jules closes the distance and clinches.
Jules tries to pull guard but Lloyd forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Lloyd has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Jules is trying to keep an underhook but Lloyd manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Jules trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jules is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lloyd has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jules's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gregory Jules dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lloyd is defended easily by Jules.
Tom Lloyd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lloyd shoots in looking for a takedown. Jules tries to sprawl out of it but Lloyd keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jules manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Jules pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lloyd shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jules but Jules pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Jules lands a brutal head kick. Lloyd looks out on his feet and Jules throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
