PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Owen Schmitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt St Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schmitt comes to the cage accompanied by In God We Trust - Stryper. St Pierre has chosen Territoire Hostile as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Owen Schmitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt St Pierre!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Donald Grub and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Schmitt there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A combination from Schmitt does no damage.
Schmitt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Schmitt wants it to stay on the feet.
St Pierre shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
enabling Schmitt to counter with a crisp jab.
Schmitt takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Schmitt jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Schmitt lands a nice looking body shot.
St Pierre takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
St Pierre shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Owen Schmitt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt St Pierre.
A looping hook to the body misses from Schmitt. St Pierre does a little dance to reset his feet.
St Pierre avoids the head kick by Schmitt.
Schmitt throws a body kick that misses.
Schmitt looks to throw the jab but St Pierre is out of range.

Schmitt is looking to slow St Pierre down with leg kicks.
St Pierre fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Schmitt avoids it really well and circles away.
Schmitt scores with a jab. St Pierre acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A cross from Schmitt lands.
St Pierre tries to score a power double leg takedown but Schmitt sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten St Pierre somewhat.
St Pierre takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Schmitt swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Schmitt finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Schmitt misses with a looping right.
St Pierre fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
St Pierre blocks a jab.
St Pierre moves out of range of the body kick.
Schmitt lands a head kick. St Pierre smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
St Pierre fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
St Pierre shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Schmitt pinned against the cage. Schmitt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

A short uppercut from Schmitt.
St Pierre has Schmitt pressed against the cage, preventing Schmitt from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Schmitt breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Schmitt lands with a cross.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schmitt throws the kick towards the body but St Pierre avoids it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Schmitt. St Pierre does a little dance to reset his feet.
Schmitt throws a body punch but St Pierre moves out of range.

St Pierre bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

St Pierre decides to stand back up. St Pierre steps back and let's Schmitt get back to his feet.
St Pierre tries for a takedown but Schmitt circles away easily
and Schmitt counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
A chopping leg kick lands by Schmitt.
St Pierre with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Schmitt to score with a decent uppercut.
Schmitt thuds a left hand into St Pierre's body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

St Pierre fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Schmitt throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
No joy there for Schmitt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
St Pierre displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Schmitt throws out the jab.

Schmitt changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Schmitt just misses with a punch to the body.
Schmitt connects with a body shot.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Schmitt throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
St Pierre takes one to the chin there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Owen Schmitt dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The fighters circling - Schmitt throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Schmitt swings for the body but St Pierre moves out of range.
St Pierre is looking to clinch but Schmitt is avoiding it.
Schmitt is looking to score with low kicks.
Schmitt lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
St Pierre takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Schmitt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Schmitt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

St Pierre looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Schmitt is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

St Pierre looks like he's trying to stand up.
Schmitt wants to free his trapped foot but St Pierre is holding on for dear life with his legs.

St Pierre is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Schmitt pulls his head out easily.
Schmitt takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Schmitt is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for St Pierre!
St Pierre is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

BOOM! Schmitt connects with a massive shot to the dome!
St Pierre is still in real trouble! Can Schmitt finish him?
St Pierre takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Schmitt's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Owen Schmitt!
After the fight, Owen Schmitt was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
