PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ong Bak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bak kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is One Night In Bangkok. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ong Bak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henderson keeps the fight on the outside.
Bak lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Bak.


It looks like Dan Henderson has been cut.
No joy there for Bak, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bak throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Henderson.
Bak rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Henderson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bak moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Henderson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bak was covering up waiting for the punch and Henderson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bak pulls Henderson in to control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Bak tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Henderson counters with a head kick.
Bak moves to clinch but Henderson breaks away

and Henderson counters by clinching up.

Bak breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Henderson tries to pull guard but Bak holds him up against the cage and eventually Henderson drops back down to his feet.
Bak tries to throw a body punch but Henderson avoids it by throwing Bak back against the cage.
Henderson can't break the clinch.
Bak lands a body shot.
Henderson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Henderson tries to circle away but Bak has him pinned against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Henderson - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Bak manages to break the clinch.

Bak goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Bak tries to clinch up but Henderson circles away and keeps his distance.

Bak closes the distance and pushes Henderson back into the cage.

Henderson pulls guard successfully.
Henderson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bak wants to stand but Henderson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Henderson is looking for a triangle but Bak pushes his legs off easily.

Bak slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bak is looking to stand up but Henderson won't let him.
Henderson is trying to control the position but Bak postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bak is looking to clinch.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Henderson dives in and grabs Bak's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bak pushes down on Henderson's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Dan Henderson's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bak tries to clinch there but Henderson circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bak looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bak throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Henderson clinches up with Bak and pushes him back against the cage.

Bak's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bak tries to clinch there but Henderson circles away.

Henderson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bak throws a series of punches but Henderson moves out of range.
Henderson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bak as he avoids it easily.

Henderson is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Bak.


That has opened up Dan Henderson's cut even more.
Bak tries to clinch but Henderson is having none of it.
Bak throws a good cross that connects.
Ong Bak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Henderson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bak dodges the punch combination from Henderson.
Bak works over Henderson's head and body with a nice combination.
Henderson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Henderson dives in and grabs Bak's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bak pushes down on Henderson's head and hops out.
Bak fails with an attempt to clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Henderson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Henderson prevents Bak from getting back to his feet.
Bak wants to sweep here but Henderson controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dan Henderson.

Henderson is looking to take this one to the mat.
Ong Bak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Henderson.

Bak tries to close the distance and clinch but Henderson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Henderson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bak's efforts to push away.

Bak has had enough of the clinch but Henderson keeps him there for the moment.
Bak is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Bak is pressed up against the cage. Henderson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bak down to the mat. Bak avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Ong Bak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bak lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Henderson backs up against the cage.
Bak lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


Henderson is rocked!


The cut above Dan Henderson's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Ong Bak is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Henderson shoots in for a double leg but Bak sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Henderson is still on wobbly legs! Can Bak finish him?
Henderson is keeping his hands low and just asking to be knocked out. Bak Raises his leg and lands a stunning axe kick! Henderson is out cold, face down on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ong Bak!
