PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Charles Tyson!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carwin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tyson circles away quickly and effectively.

A jab-cross combination lands for Carwin and sends Tyson crashing to the mat! Carwin follows him down to the mat - Tyson regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


It looks like Charles Tyson has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carwin escapes and gets back to his feet.
Tyson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Carwin misses with a hook to the body

and Tyson counters by moving into the clinch.
Carwin prevents a takedown attempt there.
Tyson wants to take the fight to the mat but Carwin manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Frank Carwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Tyson.

Tyson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Carwin uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carwin wanted to stand there but Tyson had control of the position.
Tyson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
BOOM! Tyson connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Carwin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tyson breaks from Carwin's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Tyson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Tyson looking to control but Carwin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tyson throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

Carwin wants to try and get back to his feet.
Tyson controlling the pace for now.
Tyson throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tyson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carwin is looking to escape.

Tyson has control of Carwin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Carwin regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Tyson thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Carwin holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Tyson tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Carwin wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carwin blocking the ground and pound.
Carwin squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Tyson lands a big shot there that rocks Carwin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.


It looks like Frank Carwin has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tyson looking to control but Carwin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Tyson lands a heavy elbow.
Carwin blocking the ground and pound.
Tyson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Carwin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Tyson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Tyson tries to control but Carwin wriggling away.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charles Tyson dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carwin with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Carwin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tyson was well out of range. Poor timing from Carwin.
Carwin throws a left and a right that both miss

so Tyson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet but Tyson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carwin keeping moving, preventing Tyson from controlling successfully.
Tyson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carwin is keeping the position for now.
Tyson prevents Carwin from getting back to his feet.

Tyson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Tyson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tyson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Tyson stops Carwin from standing up.
Tyson wants to control from the top but Carwin keeps moving.
Carwin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Carwin tries to get out of the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Tyson postures up in Carwin's guard and throws a big left but Carwin blocks it.

Tyson gets to his feet - Carwin follows without any prompting.
Carwin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tyson circles away quickly and effectively.
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch but Carwin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carwin drops Tyson with a nice combination! Carwin dives into Tyson's guard, looking to finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Carwin tries to bum rush Tyson with a series of wild strikes but Tyson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

That has opened up Charles Tyson's cut even more.

and Tyson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Tyson.

Carwin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Tyson has him pressed against the cage.

Tyson jumps guard but Carwin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Tyson is looking for a triangle but Carwin pushes his legs off easily.
Carwin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tyson is proving hard to escape from.
Tyson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tyson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carwin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Tyson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carwin's guard.
Carwin wants to stand and escape but Tyson is having none of it.
Tyson wants to control from the top but Carwin keeps moving.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Charles Tyson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Carwin tries to bum rush Tyson with a series of wild strikes but Tyson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tyson dodges the punch combination from Carwin.
Carwin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Tyson counters with a shoot takedown. Carwin fights it but they end up in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tyson is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Tyson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet.
Tyson is trying to control. Carwin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Tyson stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Good leg kick by Tyson there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Carwin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tyson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Carwin misses with a series of wild punches.
Carwin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Frank Carwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Tyson.
Tyson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Carwin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Carwin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Charles Tyson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tyson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
