Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tycho Van Braam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kirill Stegnin! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stegnin is looking to clinch. Van Braam looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Van Braam shoots and misses and Stegnin counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Ground and pound from Stegnin. Stegnin wants to take a breather but Van Braam is having none of it. Stegnin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Stegnin trying to control from half guard but Van Braam is working away. Stegnin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Van Braam kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nice strikes from Stegnin there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Van Braam keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Van Braam is not content to let Stegnin control the position. Van Braam is trying to control but Stegnin passes into side control!
Van Braam is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ground and pound from Stegnin seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Stegnin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Van Braam keeps working. Stegnin lands an elbow. Stegnin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Van Braam down.
Stegnin trying to control the action but Van Braam is working from the bottom. Van Braam is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Stegnin has just dragged him back down to the mat. Stegnin working the ground and pound. Van Braam takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Van Braam is rocked! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The referee asks Stegnin politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Stegnin prefers to stall for the moment though. Oh Van Braam is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Stegnin lands a strong strike to the head of Van Braam. That's dazed him! Stegnin looking to finish here. Van Braam is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Stegnin lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kirill Stegnin! A less than humble Kirill Stegnin misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
