Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Maeda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 64 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiwi Bird!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maeda lands with a kick to the temple. Bird shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Maeda could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Maeda moves into the clinch.
Maeda is trying to trip Bird. He has hold of a leg but Bird is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Maeda persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Maeda stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Maeda drops Bird with a beautiful combination! Bird stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Maeda is looking for the KO!
Bird is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Maeda dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Bird has had enough and taps out.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Thiago Maeda!
