PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nomor Gai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Alkofer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Nomor Gai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Christian Alkofer!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gai will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Good leg kick by Alkofer there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Alkofer gets caught flat footed, as Gai shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Alkofer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gai manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gai lands a couple of decent looking shots.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gai throws a strike but Alkofer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Gai seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Alkofer tries to free his leg and advance position but Gai is retaining full guard.

Gai has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Gai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Alkofer drops back looking for a leg! Gai is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gai manages to kick Alkofer off! Alkofer jumps back into Gai's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nomor Gai has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Alkofer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gai.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gai decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Alkofer lands a jab-cross combination.
Gai lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Gai scores with a hook to the body. Alkofer takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Gai fails with the takedown
and Alkofer counters with an outside leg kick.
Gai shoots for a takedown but Alkofer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Alkofer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gai swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Alkofer throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gai was covering up waiting for the punch and Alkofer finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gai controls Alkofer momentarily but Alkofer frees himself.

Alkofer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nomor Gai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alkofer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gai swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alkofer is working Gai over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Alkofer postures up in Gai's guard and throws a big left but Gai blocks it.

Alkofer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gai has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nomor Gai.

Gai closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gai lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Gai throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gai throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Alkofer to regain full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gai makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gai trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gai looking to sit in guard and control but Alkofer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Alkofer throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nomor Gai will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Gai is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alkofer's half guard.
Alkofer regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gai.
Gai is looking to work some ground and pound but Alkofer has wrist control.

Gai arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Alkofer's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Nomor Gai!
During a confident post fight interview, Nomor Gai thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
