PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Vic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Urutaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kai Urutaka will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Vic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Urutaka!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Urutaka shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vic manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Vic lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Urutaka!
Urutaka is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Vic lands with some strikes.
Urutaka really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Vic looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Vic wants to finish this one by submission but Urutaka is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Vic.
Vic lands with some strikes.

Vic looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Vic is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Urutaka has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Urutaka takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Vic misses with a head shot.

Vic putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Urutaka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vic can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Urutaka is looking to escape.

Vic goes for an armbar but Urutaka turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Urutaka.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Vic throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Vic tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Urutaka gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Vic shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Urutaka counters with a single leg into guard. Vic didn't expect that.

Urutaka loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Vic has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vic manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Urutaka manages to get himself to full guard.
Urutaka keeping moving, preventing Vic from controlling successfully.

Vic drops back, looking for a kneebar! Urutaka looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Urutaka looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Urutaka!
Vic manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Vic is refusing to be controlled, as Urutaka sits in half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Urutaka decides to stand up.
Vic doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Urutaka counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Vic is breathing heavily.
Urutaka comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Vic tries to clinch but Urutaka is having none of it.

Urutaka takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vic is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Vic. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Urutaka tries to land a knee to the head but Vic blocks with his arms.

Urutaka has hold of one of Vic's legs. Vic is fighting the takedown attempt but Urutaka gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Vic dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Urutaka defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vic.

Urutaka shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Urutaka was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Vic wants to control but Urutaka is having none of it.
Vic is wriggling around trying to escape.
Vic manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Vic is trying to control but can't.

Urutaka is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vic defends it well.
Vic is looking to control Urutaka's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vic avoid being mounted?

Urutaka seems to be working for a kimura but Vic defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vic moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Urutaka must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Urutaka trying to control but Vic is working from the bottom.
Urutaka slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Urutaka accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Urutaka avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vic keeping moving, preventing Urutaka from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vic is on top in guard.

Vic drops back looking for a leg! Urutaka is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Urutaka manages to kick Vic off! Vic jumps back into Urutaka's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vic is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Urutaka looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vic trying to control but Urutaka is working from the bottom.

Urutaka is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Vic is pushing down on Urutaka's leg trying to pass to half guard. Urutaka is fighting to maintain full guard but Vic has managed to sneak the leg through.

Vic is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Vic wants to lay and pray for a moment but Urutaka keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Urutaka is in trouble now - Vic has advanced to mount!

Urutaka has left one of his arms exposed and Vic doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Urutaka screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Michael Vic!
