The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Christiansen clinches up against the cage. Vasconcellos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vasconcellos throws a push kick but Christiansen slaps the foot to one side. Thomas Christiansen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Vasconcellos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Christiansen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Christiansen throws a series of punches but Vasconcellos avoids them all with ease. Christiansen throws a nice looking combination but Vasconcellos bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Christiansen misses with a two punch combination.
Vasconcellos tries for a takedown but Christiansen circles away easily and Christiansen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Some wild striking there from Christiansen.

Vasconcellos shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Thomas Christiansen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fernando Vasconcellos. Horrible takedown by Vasconcellos or perhaps it was just good defense by Christiansen which made him look bad. Vasconcellos fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Vasconcellos looks gassed! Vasconcellos is trying to get back to full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Christiansen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Vasconcellos knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Christiansen missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christiansen kicks Vasconcellos off and gets back to his feet. Christiansen shoots for a double leg takedown but Vasconcellos sprawls well. He's pushed Christiansen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Christiansen misses with a body shot.

Christiansen looks to land a combination but Vasconcellos avoids it well. Vasconcellos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Horrible takedown by Vasconcellos or perhaps it was just good defense by Christiansen which made him look bad.

Vasconcellos is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Christiansen is surviving well by controlling Vasconcellos's body position as best he can. Christiansen keeping moving, preventing Vasconcellos from controlling successfully. Vasconcellos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
