Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Katsu Higashikuni!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bate smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Bate throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Higashikuni.
Higashikuni fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bate tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Higashikuni was well out of range. Poor timing from Bate.

Higashikuni misses with a wild body shot.

Tyrone Bate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Katsu Higashikuni.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bate takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bate cracks Higashikuni with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The referee warns Higashikuni that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Higashikuni is desperately trying to improve his position but Bate has a good base and remains in mount.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bate lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Higashikuni flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Higashikuni tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bate sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Higashikuni somewhat.

Bate shoots in looking for a takedown. Higashikuni tries to sprawl out of it but Bate keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Higashikuni manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Bate uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Higashikuni.
Bate bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Bate throws a shot from downtown. Higashikuni moves away and avoids it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Higashikuni uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bate. Higashikuni does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bate stuffs the takedown attempt from Higashikuni. Higashikuni gets slowly back to his feet.

Bate feints and as Higashikuni raises his hands in defense, Bate changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tyrone Bate overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Higashikuni is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Higashikuni has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bate is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Higashikuni.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bate thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Higashikuni is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Bate is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bate with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Higashikuni to score with a decent uppercut.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Bate lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Higashikuni has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Higashikuni and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Katsu Higashikuni comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bate has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Tyrone Bate decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
