Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Suraski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hurba Derba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Hurba Derba was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dave Suraski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hurba Derba! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Steve Montenegro and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Suraski throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Derba's waist but Derba gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Suraski off to one side. Suraski cracks a nice hook into Derba's ribs. Suraski takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Suraski shoots in and drives through. Derba sprawls well. Derba throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Suraski. A solid body kick from Derba. Suraski fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Suraski. That's going to take a lot out of him. Derba throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Derba misses with a body shot.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Derba looks to land a combination but Suraski avoids it well. Suraski misses with a two punch combination.

That's one minute gone in the round. Suraski keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Derba's head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Suraski in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Suraski postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Suraski loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Suraski pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Derba is keeping the position for now. Derba is trying to control the position but Suraski postures up. Derba really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Suraski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Suraski is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Suraski throws a big right hand that misses. Derba is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Suraski looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Suraski throws a big elbow that misses. Suraski seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Suraski accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Suraski thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Suraski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Suraski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Derba wants to sweep here but Suraski controlling him for the moment. Suraski has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Suraski trying to control but Derba is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Suraski accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Suraski trying to control but Derba is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Dave Suraski wasn't doing enough on the ground. Derba swings for the body but Suraski moves out of range.
Suraski throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Derba tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Suraski is in Derba's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Derba can do anything to dispel that myth. Derba preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Suraski in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Suraski works a leg free and moves into half guard. Derba has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Suraski is working away from the top position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Suraski thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Suraski throwing shots but Derba is blocking nicely. Suraski is thwarting Derba's attempts to control the position. Suraski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Derba is staying active underneath Suraski, who seems content to just control the action from this position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Derba blocking the ground and pound attempt from Suraski. Suraski prevents Derba from improving his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dave Suraski dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Derba fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Suraski manages to avoid it. Derba tries to bum rush Suraski with a series of wild strikes but Suraski uses good footwork to avoid the assault. A looping hook to the body misses from Derba. Suraski does a little dance to reset his feet. Suraski is trying hard to land a takedown here. Derba sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Derba throws out a loose jab but Suraski uses good head movement to avoid it. Suraski ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Suraski drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Suraski landing strikes. Dave Suraski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The ground and pound from Suraski seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Derba can't do much from the bottom here. Suraski misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Suraski is looking to take a break and control but Derba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suraski has hold of Derba's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Derba seems comfortable defending it but Suraski has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Derba is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Derba is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Suraski couldn't care less - he's delighted!
