The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mannersormi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Pynchon gets the takedown into side control. Mannersormi is looking to reverse the position. Pynchon lands some shots froms side control. Mannersormi trying to remain calm as Pynchon controls from the top position. Mannersormi avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Pynchon. Mannersormi is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mannersormi struggling a bit here. Mannersormi parries the strikes from Pynchon easily there. Pynchon is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mannersormi to escape.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mannersormi is trying to get back to half guard. Pynchon throws an elbow but Mannersormi slips to the side and avoids it well. Mannersormi is looking for a sweep. Mannersormi is trying to escape the position but Pynchon is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mannersormi is trying to improve his position. Mannersormi parries the strikes from Pynchon easily there. Pynchon is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mannersormi to escape.
Pynchon lands a nice forearm strike.
Mannersormi is rocked!
It looks like Markku Mannersormi has been cut. Pynchon with the ground and pound but Mannersormi regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Mannersormi wants to control but Pynchon is keeping busy and won't allow it. Pynchon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are battling for position here. Mannersormi manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Pynchon trying to control but Mannersormi is working from the bottom. Pynchon throws an elbow that misses. Mannersormi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pynchon's guard. Nice move by Mannersormi! Mannersormi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pynchon keeping moving, preventing Mannersormi from controlling successfully. Mannersormi preventing the sweep. Mannersormi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Mannersormi throwing strikes from guard but Pynchon blocks nicely. Pynchon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mannersormi on the ground. Mannersormi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mannersormi stands up over Pynchon, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Mannersormi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Pynchon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pynchon tries to get out of the position. Mannersormi trying to control the position from guard on top but Pynchon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mannersormi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Pynchon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mannersormi is one step ahead there. Mannersormi controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Thomas Pynchon showed his dominance in that final round. Well Pynchon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
