And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yama Lakes!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lakes pulls out of a head kick attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lakes gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kimura.

Lakes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Lakes instigates a clinch.

Lakes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Lakes scores a takedown into full mount!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kimura regains half guard.
Lakes is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Lakes wants to stand up but Kimura is controlling the position.

Lakes decides to stand up.
Kimura dives in and grabs Lakes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lakes pushes down on Kimura's head and hops out.
Kimura is breathing heavily.
Kimura tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lakes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lakes tries a head kick but it misses.
Kimura shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Kimura. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lakes closes the distance and clinches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lakes comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Lakes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lakes lands with a kick to the ribs.

Lakes clinches with his opponent.

Lakes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sloppy strikes from Lakes. Those never looked like landing.
Lakes plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Kimura shoots in and drives through. Lakes sprawls well.

Lakes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kimura, pushing him back against the cage.

Lakes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kimura tries to sprawl but Lakes drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Kimura is not content to let Lakes control the position.

Lakes stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kimura to get to his feet.
A head kick misses from Lakes.
Lakes lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lakes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kimura napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Lakes decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kimura closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lakes circles away.
Lakes plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Lakes throws a head kick that Kimura semi-blocks.
A head kick misses from Lakes.
Lakes throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kimura's head.
Nice body kick there by Lakes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A combination from Lakes does no damage.
Kimura throws a hook but Lakes avoids it easily.

Lakes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kimura manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kimura is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Lakes has his hands clasped together but Kimura extends an breaks Lakes's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kimura.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Kimura!
