Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruce Banner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Arona! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good work by Banner as he checks the leg kick. Arona throws a nice looking combination but Banner bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Arona displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Banner. Arona lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Banner has a takedown stuffed. Banner drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Arona tried to score with a low kick but Banner checks it. Arona closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Banner did well to prevent Arona getting side control. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Arona is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Banner trying to hold on to Arona's head to control him but Arona postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Banner controlling the position well. Arona tries to pass to full mount but Banner defends it. Banner is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Banner looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

The fighters are battling for position here. Banner manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Banner pulls Arona in to control the position. Banner tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Banner wants to improve his position but instead Arona has moved into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Arona tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Banner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Arona's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Arona's back! Arona is trying to stand back up. Arona is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Arona grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Banner is landing with strikes. Arona can't take much more of this. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bruce Banner dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Arona will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Banner dives in and grabs Arona's left leg, looking for a takedown. Arona pushes down on Banner's head and hops out. Arona gets caught flat footed, as Banner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Arona wants to get back to his feet but Banner is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Arona has momentary wrist control but Banner slips an elbow through the middle. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Banner's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Banner lands a couple of digs. Banner sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Arona's guard. Banner looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Banner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Arona is breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Banner lands with a punch from half guard. Arona wants to get back to his feet.
