The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Suzuki lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Lisko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Suzuki throws a right hand that Lisko ducks under and follows up with a left that Lisko also avoids with ease. Lisko fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Lisko looks for a takedown but Suzuki sprawls well. Lisko could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Suzuki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Lisko feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Suzuki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Lisko passes Suzuki's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Lisko thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Suzuki controlling the position for now. Suzuki regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Lisko. Lisko stops Suzuki from standing up. Lisko throws a strike but Suzuki rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Suzuki wants to get up but he can't break Lisko's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lisko looking for a sweep. Not yet Lisko, not yet. Lisko trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Suzuki has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Lisko to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Suzuki is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Lisko pulls down on the head and he's put Suzuki to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kimmo Lisko!
