Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barry Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gavilan Barrera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by When Will They Shoot. Barrera has chosen Ileso as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barry Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gavilan Barrera!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith moves in looking to clinch but Barrera pushes him off.
Smith is looking to land body kicks.
Smith lands a left and a right that sends Barrera crashing to the canvas! Smith dives into mount looking to finish!


It looks like Gavilan Barrera has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.


Barrera is rocked!
Smith wants to control the pace but Barrera is squirming around nicely.
Barrera is still in real trouble! Can Smith finish him?
Barrera seems to have recovered his senses.
Smith controlling from mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Barrera has worked his arm free - good work by Barrera!

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Smith laying and praying for a moment but Barrera takes advantage and regains half guard.

Smith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Barrera kicks off Smith and gets to his feet.
Smith avoids the head kick by Barrera.
Smith throws a series of punches but Barrera moves out of range.
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barrera's waist but Barrera gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
Barrera swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith tries to clinch but Barrera moves out of range.
Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A punch combination from Smith misses.
Smith wants to clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Barrera throws a series of strikes that have Smith backpedaling.


It looks like Barry Smith has been cut.

Barrera tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.
Barrera keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Barrera misses with a combination

and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Barrera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Barrera is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Smith is looking to stand up but Barrera isn't so interested in that idea.
Barrera must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Barrera misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Barrera misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Smith wants to control from the top but Barrera keeps moving.

Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barrera keeps working.
Smith passes to side control.
Smith trying to control the action but Barrera is working from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith wants to control for a moment but Barrera uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Smith gets full guard.
Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Barrera's guard.

Barrera is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea.

Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Smith works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Smith uses his free foot to push down on Barrera's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Barrera.
Smith looking to control but Barrera is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Smith content just to control the position here.

Smith looking to secure an arm triangle but Barrera defends it well.

Smith is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Barrera has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Barrera!
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Barrera avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Smith wants to sweep here but Barrera controlling him for the moment.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there.
Barrera is staying active underneath Smith, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Barrera regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Smith.

Barrera takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Smith passes Barrera's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Smith is keen to just control but Barrera is a slippery customer.

Barrera kicks Smith off and gets back to his feet.
Barrera misses with a wild combination.

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Barrera takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Smith tries for a kimura but Barrera is defending well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Barrera can't do much from the bottom here.
