PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis DeYoung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Ryan Conway has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ryan Conway seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Conway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis DeYoung!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

DeYoung fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Conway, pushing him back against the cage.

DeYoung manages to pull guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
DeYoung manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

DeYoung moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Conway has worked his arm free - good work by Conway!

DeYoung looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
DeYoung misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
DeYoung wants to lay and pray for a moment but Conway keeps working.
DeYoung working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

DeYoung throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
DeYoung wants to control but Conway is keeping him busy.
Conway is looking for a sweep.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

DeYoung is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Conway has escaped the position, nice work there.

DeYoung is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Conway is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

DeYoung tries to advance to mount but can't.
DeYoung is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
DeYoung lands an elbow.

DeYoung is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Conway has escaped the position, nice work there.
Conway is trying to get back to his feet.

Conway is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
DeYoung trying to control the action but Conway is working from the bottom.
Conway dodges the ground and pound from DeYoung.
DeYoung misses with the ground and pound.
The strikes coming from DeYoung are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Conway regains half guard, as DeYoung was trying to land strikes.

DeYoung is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

DeYoung stops Conway from getting back to his feet.
Conway keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Conway is looking to control DeYoung's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Conway avoid being mounted?
DeYoung missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Conway avoiding damage under a succession of punches from DeYoung.

DeYoung looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis DeYoung dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


DeYoung changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Conway tries to avoid it but DeYoung manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Conway to the ground. Conway escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
DeYoung closes this distance looking for a takedown but Conway circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Conway fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Dennis DeYoung has been cut.
Dennis DeYoung is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

DeYoung clinches up with Conway and pushes him back against the cage.
Conway misses with a hook from the clinch.
DeYoung fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ryan Conway has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dennis DeYoung.

DeYoung is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Conway to keep the fight standing.

DeYoung decides to pull guard.
DeYoung wants to improve his position but instead Conway has moved into half guard.
DeYoung is looking to get back to full guard here but Conway has managed to pass to side control instead.
Conway wants to control but DeYoung is keeping him busy.

Conway is trying to get an arm triangle but DeYoung is defending well.

Conway gets to mount! DeYoung was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
DeYoung is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

DeYoung swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
DeYoung has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
DeYoung is trying to reverse the position but instead Conway has taken his back - oops!
Conway keeps control of the position easily here as DeYoung tries to buck him off.
Can DeYoung hold on?! Conway is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Conway is trying to stick to DeYoung's back but DeYoung is turning into Conway. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Conway's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by DeYoung.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dennis DeYoung has got the better of the ground game so far.
DeYoung looking to pass the guard.
Conway manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. DeYoung manages to get himself to full guard.

DeYoung looking to control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Dennis DeYoung has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
DeYoung tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Conway circles away from the clinch attempt.
Conway pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
DeYoung shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Conway sprawls well. Conway wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. DeYoung gets slowly back to his feet.
Conway lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Conway lands a big uppercut and DeYoung crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but DeYoung looks OK. Conway waves DeYoung back to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
DeYoung shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Conway defends it nicely.

Conway sends DeYoung crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Conway is motioning to the referee to let DeYoung up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!


DeYoung is rocked!
DeYoung is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Conway doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! DeYoung crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in DeYoung's bad books for that mishap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ryan Conway!
