PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Blackmon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Ryder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryder comes into a darkened arena with his song building. bed of nails kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! John Blackmon has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Blackmon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Austin Ryder!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blackmon misses with a takedown attempt - Ryder sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Blackmon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Blackmon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ryder is looking to take this one to the mat.
Blackmon wants a takedown.
Ryder using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Blackmon has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Blackmon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Blackmon misses with a knee strike.

Blackmon drags the fight down to the ground.

Blackmon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ryder defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ryder loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blackmon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Blackmon is looking for a triangle but Ryder pushes his legs off easily.
Blackmon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Blackmon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ryder throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Blackmon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Blackmon holds on and takes a little breather.
Ryder throws a big elbow that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ryder wants to pass the guard but Blackmon is keeping the position.
Blackmon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ryder accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ryder throwing strikes from guard but Blackmon blocks nicely.

Blackmon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ryder defends it easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Ryder trying to control the position from guard on top but Blackmon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Blackmon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Ryder got a little sloppy there for a moment and Blackmon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ryder has managed to get both his arms back between Blackmon's legs - danger averted.
Blackmon is breathing heavily.
Ryder throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Blackmon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Blackmon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ryder doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ryder manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ryder drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ryder jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Blackmon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ryder can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blackmon trying to keep a closed guard but Ryder is proving a slippery customer.
Ryder lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Blackmon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ryder doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ryder manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryder trying to control but Blackmon is working from the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ryder working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Blackmon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nice sprawl there from Blackmon as Ryder shoots in.
Blackmon wants to clinch up but Ryder keeps it at a distance.
Ryder looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blackmon is fending him off so far but Ryder persists. Nope, Blackmon circles away and we're back to standing.
Blackmon lands a big head kick that sends Ryder to the canvas! Blackmon follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Blackmon!
