Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carl Panzram! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Travis Riley! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Panzram looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Panzram turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Riley throws a chopping leg kick but Panzram manages to avoid taking any serious damage. A slow jab from Riley misses its intended target. Panzram connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Riley lands with a cross.
It looks like Carl Panzram has been cut. Riley tests Panzram's chin there with a solid looking shot. Panzram shoots in and drives through. Riley sprawls well. Panzram uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Riley. Nice uppercut lands for Riley. That snapped Panzram's head back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Panzram takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Riley avoids the body shot from Panzram.
That's one minute gone in the round. A swing and a miss from Riley. Panzram avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Riley throws a leg kick that is checked and Panzram counters with a nice double leg into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Panzram working the head and body with strikes. Riley looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Panzram lands strikes from half guard. Panzram scoring with strikes to the body and head. Riley wants to improve his position but Panzram is controlling well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Panzram is pressing down on Riley's thigh, looking to free his foot. Riley is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Panzram is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Panzram thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Panzram moves into full mount! Riley won't be happy about that! Riley avoids a series of strikes thrown by Panzram.
Riley is in a horrible position here. Panzram smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Panzram with good strikes from the mount here! Riley blocking the ground and pound. Riley tries to reverse the position but Panzram maintains control. Riley in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Panzram cracks Riley with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panzram punching from mount but Riley doing a good job of avoiding damage. Riley is looking to improve his position but Panzram isn't that keen on the idea. Panzram working the ground and pound effectively.
Panzram postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Riley looks a forlorn figure.
Panzram scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Panzram has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Riley can't escape the position.
Panzram landing punches. Panzram thowing shots but they're missing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Panzram landing strikes, looking to finish!
Riley is rocked!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Panzram lands a heavy elbow. Riley is still in real trouble! Can Panzram finish him? Panzram postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Riley badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Panzram around the waist but Panzram pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Panzram is the winner by TKO! Panzram jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carl Panzram! During a confident post fight interview, Carl Panzram thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
