PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Biffa Bacon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Coles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bacon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is British Marching Tune - The British Grenadiers. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Biffa Bacon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dennis Coles!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A bone on bone clash there as Bacon blocks the leg kick.
Coles throws a shot from downtown. Bacon moves away and avoids it.
Coles misses the shot to the body.
Bacon throws a left and a right that both miss
and Coles connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bacon walks into a jab.
A left and a right from Coles both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Biffa Bacon has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Coles swats away the attempt to clinch by Bacon.
Coles slips a jab and a cross from Bacon.
A looping hook to the body misses from Coles. Bacon does a little dance to reset his feet.

Bacon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Coles manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Coles uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Coles tries to grapple but his opponent circles

so Bacon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bacon tries to stand but Coles is controlling from the bottom.

Bacon is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Coles is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Coles has escaped and now he's on top!
Coles must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Coles tries to stand but Bacon is controlling from the bottom.

Bacon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Coles defends it easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bacon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Coles defends well.
Bacon trying to keep a closed guard but Coles is proving a slippery customer.

Coles stands up from Bacon's guard - Coles perhaps looking for a knockout.
No joy there for Coles, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bacon tries to clinch there but Coles circles away.
Bacon looks to land a combination but Coles avoids it well.
Coles stuffs the takedown attempt from Bacon. Bacon gets slowly back to his feet.

Coles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bacon manages to avoid it.

Horrible takedown by Bacon or perhaps it was just good defense by Coles which made him look bad.

Bacon lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Biffa Bacon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Coles throws a body punch but Bacon moves out of range.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nice sprawl there from Coles as Bacon shoots in.
Coles misses with a body shot.
Coles fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dennis Coles will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Coles will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Coles swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Coles takes a swing at Bacon's ribcage but misses.
Coles wants to clinch up but Bacon keeps it at a distance.

Dennis Coles seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Coles throws a looping overhand right but Bacon ducks down to avoid it.
Coles throws a nice looking combination but Bacon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Coles lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bacon circles away quickly and effectively.
Biffa Bacon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Coles jabs Bacon to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Bacon scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Bacon working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Bacon swings around for an armbar but Coles sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bacon's guard.

Bacon has his foot on Coles's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Coles works his way back into a safe position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Coles wants to get up but he can't break Bacon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Coles postures up and lands a big shot to Bacon's brow.

Bacon looking for subs off his back but Coles has passed one foot through into half guard.

Coles has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Coles!

Coles throws a low kick, looking for Bacon's leg but Bacon calmly moves out of range.
Bacon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Coles defends it nicely.
Bacon tries to close the distance and clinch but Coles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dennis Coles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bacon throws a right and a left that Coles avoids nicely.

Coles just misses with a punch to the body.
Coles jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Bacon moves forwards but Coles connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Coles misses with a straight left.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Coles looks to score with a jab to the body but Bacon is just out of range.
Coles misses with a series of wild punches.
Bacon misses with a head kick.
Bacon slips a straight right by Coles.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bacon shoots for a double leg takedown but Coles sprawls well. He's pushed Bacon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Dennis Coles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Bacon looks to land a right hand but Coles moved out of range.
Coles lands the left hand.
Coles misses with a wild body shot.
A big left from Coles misses.
Coles throws a leg kick but Bacon sees it coming and moves out of range.
Bacon steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Coles.
Coles tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Bacon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Coles throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bacon lands a glancing blow to the side of Coles's head.

Bacon bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Biffa Bacon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coles wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Bacon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bacon wants to control but Coles is keeping him busy.
Bacon in side control lands a decent elbow.
Coles manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Bacon is staying active underneath Coles, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bacon is trying to stand.

Coles trying to control from Bacon's half guard. Bacon has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Coles has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bacon is proving hard to escape from.

Bacon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Coles can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bacon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Coles gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bacon shoots in looking for a takedown. Coles tries to sprawl out of it but Bacon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Coles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Biffa Bacon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Coles fails with an attempt to clinch.
Coles misses with a series of wild punches.
Coles punishes Bacon's body with a nice straight punch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coles buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bacon throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Coles to counter with a crisp jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Biffa Bacon.
I think Coles has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
