Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Canelo Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marv Gannicus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marv Gannicus will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Canelo Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marv Gannicus!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Castillo with that takedown attempt.

Castillo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gannicus to the mat! Gannicus manages to get full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gannicus wants to stand and escape but Castillo is having none of it.

Castillo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gannicus manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Castillo has Gannicus in his guard.

Gannicus leaves Castillo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Castillo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gannicus tries to avoid it but Castillo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gannicus to the ground. Gannicus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Castillo closes the distance and clinches up with Gannicus, looking for a takedown. Castillo pushes Gannicus against the cage but Gannicus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Castillo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gannicus pinned against the cage. Gannicus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Castillo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gannicus is trying to buck Castillo off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gannicus is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Check out the look on Castillo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gannicus can do anything to dispel that myth.
Castillo tries to score with some ground and pound. Gannicus controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Gannicus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Castillo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gannicus takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Castillo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gannicus takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Castillo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gannicus is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gannicus is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Castillo is controlling him well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Castillo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Castillo shoots in looking for a takedown. Gannicus tries to sprawl out of it but Castillo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gannicus manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gannicus's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Castillo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gannicus sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Castillo pushes Gannicus up against the cage in a clinch.
Castillo jumps guard but Gannicus stands there with Castillo around his waist. Castillo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Castillo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gannicus smiles and moves away.
Castillo shoots in looking for a takedown but Gannicus manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Castillo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Castillo takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Marv Gannicus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Gannicus stuffs the takedown attempt from Castillo. Castillo gets slowly back to his feet.

A slapping leg kick lands for Gannicus.
Gannicus ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Castillo moves away.

Gannicus moves into range and clinches up with Castillo.
Castillo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gannicus pulls his leg out and moves away.

Castillo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Gannicus.

Gannicus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Castillo gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Gannicus.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gannicus escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Castillo misses with a two punch combination.
Gannicus thumps Castillo with a low kick.
Castillo needs to keep his hands up - Gannicus had a free shot at his head there.

Castillo gets tackled into the cage by Gannicus. Gannicus maintains the clinch.
Castillo is looking to take this one to the mat.
Gannicus just leaning against Castillo, taking a breather.

Gannicus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Canelo Castillo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gannicus shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Gannicus feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Castillo sprawling to the canvas! Castillo rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Gannicus finish him?!


Castillo is rocked!

Gannicus pushes Castillo up against the cage in a clinch.
Oh Castillo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gannicus unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Castillo! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Gannicus is unloading with more strikes now! Castillo drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marv Gannicus!
