PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chris Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiny Mondello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin comes to the cage accompanied by Sail by AWOLNATION. Chris Griffin had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.9lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Chris Griffin has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tiny Mondello!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Griffin.
Mondello blocks a head kick by Griffin.

Mondello closes the distance and clinches.
Mondello gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Mondello.
Griffin managing to block the knees to the body from Mondello.
Mondello tries a knee to the head but Griffin blocks it.
Griffin is looking to take this one to the mat.
Mondello has Griffin pressed against the cage.
Griffin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mondello stops a takedown attempt from Griffin.
Mondello with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Griffin tries to score a body lock takedown but Mondello shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mondello lands a knee to the head.
Mondello taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Mondello lands an elbow just above Griffin 's eye.
Griffin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Griffin wants to take the fight to the mat but Mondello manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Griffin is breathing heavily.
Griffin takes an elbow to the temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mondello tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A short left from Mondello.
Mondello lands an elbow inside.


Griffin is rocked!

Griffin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mondello gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Griffin stops a takedown attempt from Mondello.
Griffin tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mondello avoids it.
Griffin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mondello misses with a knee strike.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Mondello obliges.

Mondello lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Griffin tries to get to full guard but Mondello has control of the leg.

Mondello decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Griffin shoots and misses

and Mondello holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Come on Mondello - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Griffin tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mondello's elbow.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mondello tries a knee to the head but Griffin blocks it.
Mondello using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Griffin has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mondello is pressed up against the cage. Griffin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mondello down to the mat. Mondello avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mondello tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Griffin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Griffin takes one on the button.
Oh Griffin is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Griffin tries to keep at a distance but Mondello has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mondello with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Mondello lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mondello has Griffin pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Griffin is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Mondello - that's hurt Griffin badly! Oh, another knee lands and Griffin is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Griffin doesn't seem to be complaining.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Tiny Mondello!
