The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whitney throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Montegro was covering up waiting for the punch and Whitney finishes the takedown easily into guard. Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Whitney throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Montegro works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Whitney tries to score a power double leg takedown but Montegro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Whitney somewhat. Whitney forces Montegro back against the cage and clinches. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Whitney goes for a takedown in the clinch but Montegro prevents it.
