Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Turtle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson Ryan had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jackson Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Turtle!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turtle fails in his attempt to clinch.
Turtle keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ryan moves into the clinch successfully.
Turtle fails to pull guard.
Turtle is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.

Ryan jumps guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Turtle throws a big elbow that misses.
Ryan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Ryan is breathing heavily.

Ryan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Turtle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ryan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Turtle trying to move into half guard but instead Ryan has managed to sweep!
Turtle manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Ryan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ryan is squirming around, avoiding Turtle's attempts to control the action.

Turtle working for a submission but Ryan is keeping him at bay.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turtle trying to control but Ryan is having none of it.
Ryan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Turtle goes for an armbar but Ryan turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ryan.
Ryan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Turtle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ryan is aware though and is defending well.
Ryan stops Turtle from standing up.
Ryan engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Turtle working a defensive guard but Ryan passes into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Turtle can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ryan decides to stand up.
Ryan swats away the attempt to clinch by Turtle.
Turtle tries to clinch
and Ryan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Turtle fails in his attempt to clinch.
Turtle misses with a double jab.
Turtle wants to clinch up but Ryan keeps it at a distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Turtle darts in trying to clinch
and Ryan counters with a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jackson Ryan will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


No luck for Turtle with that takedown attempt.
Turtle ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ryan moves away.
Turtle shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ryan as he jumps to the side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Turtle is defended easily by Ryan.
Jackson Ryan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Turtle.

Ryan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Turtle quickly recovers to half guard.
Ryan controlling the action here.
Turtle tries to kick Ryan off but Ryan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fighters are battling for position here. Turtle manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Ryan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Turtle looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ryan postures up.
Ryan distracts Turtle with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Ryan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Ryan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Turtle sprawls well initially but Ryan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ryan missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Turtle is trying to stand.

Ryan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Turtle gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Turtle is trying to pull guard but Ryan turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.

Ryan jumps guard.
Ryan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Turtle slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Ryan controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Turtle tries to stand but can't do so whilst Ryan controls his leg.

Ryan pushes Turtle off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turtle misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Ryan rushes Turtle and presses him up against the ropes.
Ryan holding his opponent close, against the ropes.
Ryan blocks a body shot from Turtle.
Turtle is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Ryan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ryan is struggling to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Turtle changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ryan fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Turtle on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson Ryan dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Ryan avoids the head kick by Turtle.
Turtle misses the shot to the body.
Ryan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Turtle defends it nicely.
Ryan misses with a takedown attempt - Turtle sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Turtle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ryan struggling a bit here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Turtle wants to control but Ryan is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Turtle thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Turtle wants to stand but Ryan has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

Ryan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Turtle defends well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turtle trying to control but Ryan is working from the bottom.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Ryan is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Turtle pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ryan is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tom Turtle hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Turtle tries to clinch but Ryan is having none of it.
Jackson Ryan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Turtle misses with a series of wild punches.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown but Turtle shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jackson Ryan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Turtle will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Turtle gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ryan counters with a takedown into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Turtle keeps working.
Jackson Ryan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ryan stands up and beckons Turtle to his feet.
Ryan stuffs the takedown attempt from Turtle. Turtle gets slowly back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ryan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Turtle sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Horrible takedown by Turtle or perhaps it was just good defense by Ryan which made him look bad.
Tom Turtle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jackson Ryan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Ryan moves into the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jackson Ryan.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ryan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
