0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshio Shibasaki! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Virtanen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No joy there for Virtanen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Shibasaki gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily so Virtanen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Virtanen passes Shibasaki's left leg - he's now in half guard. Virtanen is looking for a kimura but Shibasaki is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Virtanen to get the leverage. Virtanen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Shibasaki has managed to free his arm - good work. Virtanen throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Virtanen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Still in half guard, Virtanen seems content to control. Virtanen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Shibasaki has managed to free his arm - good work. Shibasaki missing with punches from the bottom.

Shibasaki looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Virtanen is trying to work for a kimura but Shibasaki is defending well.
Shibasaki throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Virtanen manages to pass to side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Virtanen is trying to get an arm triangle but Shibasaki is defending well. Virtanen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shibasaki, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Virtanen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Virtanen is breathing heavily. Shibasaki is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Virtanen asserts his dominance and retains side control. Shibasaki wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Virtanen has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Shibasaki's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Shibasaki is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Virtanen!
