Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Watson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tessenji Fuuhaku! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watson throws a lazy head kick and Fuuhaku connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Watson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Fuuhaku sees it coming and avoids it easily. A telegraphed right hand from Watson misses the target. Watson throws a right hand that Fuuhaku ducks under and follows up with a left that Fuuhaku also avoids with ease. Watson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Watson throws a leg kick and Fuuhaku counters with a nice kick to the body. Fuuhaku scores with a leg kick.
Fuuhaku connects with a crisp jab. Fuuhaku does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Watson tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Fuuhaku works Watson's body with a nice hook. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fuuhaku on the wrong end of a nice jab. Watson scores with a jab. Fuuhaku acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Fuuhaku sizes up Watson with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
It looks like Thomas Watson has been cut. Thomas Watson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fuuhaku throws the kick towards the body but Watson avoids it. Fuuhaku looks to land a body kick but Watson moved away. Fuuhaku on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
That's one minute gone in the round. Good shot there by Fuuhaku. Watson steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Fuuhaku. That one must have hurt. Fuuhaku swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fuuhaku misses the jab. Watson ducks under a wild hook from Fuuhaku. Fuuhaku blocks a head kick by Watson.
Watson throws a head kick but Fuuhaku moves out of range.
Fuuhaku wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Fuuhaku lands a body shot.
Fuuhaku connects with a nice looking jab.
Fuuhaku is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Watson checks a leg kick nicely. Fuuhaku blocks a low kick nicely. Watson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Fuuhaku. Watson walks into a straight right hand from Fuuhaku. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A jab from Watson does it's job there. A cross from Watson lands.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Watson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fuuhaku. Watson fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Fuuhaku is out of range. Fuuhaku throws a nice inside leg kick. Fuuhaku swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Watson blocks a head kick by Fuuhaku.
Fuuhaku misses with a series of wild punches.
Fuuhaku scores with a push kick. Fuuhaku turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Watson throws a right hand that misses
and Fuuhaku counters with a lovely straight right hand! Watson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Fuuhaku on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Fuuhaku keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Watson. Fuuhaku lands with an overhand left. Jab, jab by Watson - just one landing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fuuhaku throws a body kick that misses. Fuuhaku ducks under a wild hook from Watson. Fuuhaku takes a jab right on the kisser.
Fuuhaku ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Fuuhaku tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Watson scores with a punch to the head. Fuuhaku tried to score with a low kick but Watson checks it. Watson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Watson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Fuuhaku scoring well with a low kick there.
Fuuhaku connects with a body shot that sends Watson's belly button to the back. Fuuhaku slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Fuuhaku is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Watson had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Fuuhaku swats away the attempt to clinch by Watson. Fuuhaku fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Watson manages to avoid it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Watson tries to score with a low kick but Fuuhaku moves his leg out of the way. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Watson rushes Fuuhaku and presses him up against the cage. Fuuhaku lands a left hand.
Fuuhaku drops Watson with a big knee straight up the middle! Watson is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
Watson is rocked! Watson scores with a jab. Oh Watson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Fuuhaku drops Watson with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Watson! Fuuhaku dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tessenji Fuuhaku! Tessenji Fuuhaku is the new welterweight champion! Our winner, Tessenji Fuuhaku, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
