Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bobby Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Gomes!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Gomes looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jones!

Jones tries to lock up and control but Gomes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gomes looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Gomes controlling the pace for now.
Gomes looking to control but Jones is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Gomes jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jones manages to avoid the submission attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones stops Gomes from passing to mount.

Gomes stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Jones throws a right and a left that Gomes avoids nicely.
Gomes shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gomes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones looks to land a combination but Gomes avoids it well.
Jones tries to clinch there but Gomes circles away.
Jones misses with a low kick.
Jones is looking to clinch.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gomes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Gomes tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gomes is letting Jones control him for a moment.

Jones swings around for an armbar but Gomes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jones's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.
Gomes looks gassed!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gomes looking to control.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones wants to control from the top but Gomes keeps moving.
Jones is really struggling to control Gomes but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bobby Jones.
Jones is looking to clinch but Gomes is avoiding it.
Gomes keeps the fight on the outside.
Gomes walks into a straight right hand from Jones.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt - Gomes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Gomes has taken the fight into the clinch.

Gomes pulls guard effortlessly.

Jones wants to control from the top but Gomes keeps moving.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones stays in close to Gomes's body and controls the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bobby Jones wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Gomes shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Gomes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Steve Gomes will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gomes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gomes.
Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Gomes which made him look bad.
Jones could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Gomes is breathing heavily.
Jones is trying to stand.

Jones has his hands clasped together around Gomes's back. He's all about the action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Gomes circles away.

Jones avoids the head kick by Gomes.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gomes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.

Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gomes pinned against the cage. Gomes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jones is trying to drag Gomes to the mat but Gomes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gomes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bobby Jones will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gomes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gomes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gomes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.

Gomes has managed to clinch.

Gomes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bobby Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Gomes sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gomes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Gomes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Gomes tries to work over Jones's front leg with a kick but Jones checks it.
Jones tries to bum rush Gomes with a series of wild strikes but Gomes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gomes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jones to the mat! Jones manages to get full guard.
Gomes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gomes stands up and waves to Jones to follow him.

Jones leaves Gomes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gomes slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jones throws an overhand right that lands on Gomes's shoulder, as Gomes tries to avoid the shot.

Gomes drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gomes breaks from the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice defenses there by Gomes.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gomes.

Steve Gomes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gomes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
