Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JD Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akiyama Shinichi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akiyama Shinichi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, JD Smith!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith rushes Shinichi and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shinichi has Smith pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Shinichi pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Smith tumbling to the mat - Shinichi dives into Smith's guard.
Shinichi wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Shinichi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now.
Shinichi is working hard here to advance position.

Shinichi stops Smith from standing up.
Shinichi wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Shinichi passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Shinichi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Shinichi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shinichi.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shinichi is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shinichi is working for a submission of some sort.
Shinichi works his way into full mount!
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shinichi trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Shinichi is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Smith is surviving well by controlling Shinichi's body position as best he can.

Shinichi looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Shinichi trying to control but Smith is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Smith forces Shinichi back against the cage and clinches.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Shinichi.
Shinichi avoiding damage as Smith throws knees to the body.
Shinichi drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smith tries to land knees in the clinch but Shinichi avoids the damage to the body.
Shinichi drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Smith gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Shinichi fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akiyama Shinichi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shinichi is trying to pull guard but Smith has him pressed against the cage.

Shinichi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smith fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Smith takes the fight into the clinch.
Shinichi has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Smith is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Shinichi is looking to take this one to the mat.
Smith is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.
Shinichi goes for a takedown in the clinch but Smith prevents it.

Shinichi jumps guard but Smith turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Shinichi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Smith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Shinichi blocks an elbow strike from Smith.
Smith looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Shinichi jumps guard but Smith turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Shinichi tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Shinichi in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shinichi fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Shinichi pulls guard.
Shinichi wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.
Shinichi is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.

Shinichi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
Smith trying to control but Shinichi is working from the bottom.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shinichi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shinichi wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.
Smith looking to pass the guard.
Shinichi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

Shinichi passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Shinichi is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Smith is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Akiyama Shinichi!
