PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Kei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeya Akazumi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akazumi has chosen Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Haruka Kanata as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Kei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeya Akazumi!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kei waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Akazumi.
Kei rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Akazumi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kei won't be happy with that.

Akazumi tries for a kimura but Kei is defending well.

Akazumi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kei is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kei tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kei looking for a sweep but Akazumi has passed into full mount! Oh no!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kei is working to get back to half guard.

Akazumi jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kei manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kei manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Kei thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Akazumi's head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kei looks to land a strike but Akazumi avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Kei throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Akazumi works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Akazumi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kei's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Akazumi wants to control from the top but Kei keeps moving.
Kei preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Akazumi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kei can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Akazumi controls the pace.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kei is looking for a triangle here but Akazumi uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Kei is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Akazumi creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Akazumi wants to control but Kei is keeping him busy.
Kei tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Akazumi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kei is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Akazumi off and has taken his back!

Akazumi is in a bad position with Kei working for a choke. Akazumi manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Kei is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Akazumi defends well.

Kei has his foot on Akazumi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Akazumi works his way back into a safe position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Akazumi chips away with some ground and pound.

Kei is looking for a triangle here but Akazumi uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Akazumi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Akazumi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Akazumi advances to mount.
Kei is trying to escape the mount.
Kei is trying to reverse the position but instead Akazumi has taken his back - oops!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takeya Akazumi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Akazumi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Akazumi in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kei tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Akazumi!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Takeya Akazumi!
In his post fight interview, Takeya Akazumi started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
