Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Goncalves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lance Shorey! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shorey fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Goncalves, pushing him back against the cage. Goncalves tries to pull guard but Shorey forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Goncalves wants to break the clinch but can't.
Shorey stalls. Goncalves manages to break the clinch.
Goncalves is looking to clinch but Shorey is avoiding it.
Goncalves takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Shorey rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Goncalves moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Goncalves tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shorey swivels and escapes. Shorey misses with a kick to the body.
Goncalves could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Goncalves tries to close the distance and clinch but Shorey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Shorey drives through and clinches with Goncalves against the cage.
Shorey is defending well against a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Goncalves. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shorey misses with a two punch combination.
Goncalves closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shorey circles away. Shorey stuffs the takedown. Shorey pushes Goncalves up against the cage in a clinch. Shorey tries for a takedown but Goncalves manages to get underhooks.

Goncalves stands up from Shorey's guard - Goncalves perhaps looking for a knockout. Shorey looks gassed! Goncalves looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Shorey!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goncalves lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Shorey hang on? Goncalves landing shots from mount. Goncalves trying to control but he's not successful this time. Shorey tries to hold on but Goncalves pushes him away. Goncalves landing shots from mount. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Goncalves stands up from mount. Strange move. Goncalves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goncalves swats away the attempt to clinch by Shorey. Goncalves closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shorey's guard. Goncalves lands a couple of elbows. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Goncalves throwing strikes from guard but Shorey blocks nicely. Goncalves stands up from Shorey's guard - Goncalves perhaps looking for a knockout. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shorey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Goncalves dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Shorey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Goncalves throws a head kick but Shorey moves out of range.
Goncalves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Shorey takes a swing at Goncalves's ribcage but misses. The fight stays on the outside here - Shorey looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Goncalves bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shorey is breathing heavily. Goncalves wants to control but Shorey is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shorey trying to remain calm as Goncalves controls from the top position. Goncalves lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Shorey down.
Shorey parries the strikes from Goncalves easily there. Goncalves is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Shorey to escape.
Shorey struggling a bit here. Goncalves decides to stand back up. Goncalves steps back and let's Shorey get back to his feet. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Shorey is defended easily by Goncalves. Shorey doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goncalves shoots in and drives through. Shorey sprawls well. Shorey shoots in for a double leg but Goncalves sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Daniel Goncalves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lance Shorey. Shorey displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Goncalves. Goncalves has managed to clinch.
Goncalves will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Shorey up against the cage. Goncalves wants to take the fight to the mat but Shorey manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Goncalves shoots in and bounces Shorey off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shorey wants to sweep here but Goncalves controlling him for the moment. Shorey trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Shorey thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goncalves won't allow Shorey to get back to his feet. Goncalves distracts Shorey with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Goncalves slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Daniel Goncalves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Goncalves trying to control the position but Shorey is working away. Shorey is not in a great position here, taking some shots. A lull in the action here as Goncalves stalls from top position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shorey is looking to reverse the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Goncalves dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Goncalves closes the distance and clinches up with Shorey, looking for a takedown. Goncalves pushes Shorey against the cage but Shorey circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Goncalves is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
A bone on bone clash there as Shorey blocks the leg kick.
Shorey shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Goncalves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Shorey looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Shorey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Goncalves manages to get himself to full guard.
Shorey tries to stand but Goncalves is controlling from the bottom. Goncalves pulls Shorey in close to prevent any damage. Shorey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Goncalves manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Goncalves is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shorey to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shorey shrugs it off. Goncalves takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Goncalves seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shorey for as long as he can get away with. Goncalves trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goncalves manages to capitalize on a mistake by Shorey to take his back! Shorey is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Goncalves.
Goncalves is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Shorey has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Goncalves is looking to control Shorey but Shorey is wriggling around and keeping busy. Shorey is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goncalves scores with strikes from the back.

Goncalves controlling the position well here. Shorey rolled but Goncalves kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goncalves lands a shot to the body. Shorey tries to escape but Goncalves has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Goncalves lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK. Goncalves connects with a big shot to the side of Shorey's head.
I really don't envy Shorey right now.
Goncalves is trying to stick to Shorey's back but Shorey is turning into Goncalves. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Goncalves's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Shorey. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Goncalves controls Shorey momentarily but Shorey frees himself. Lance Shorey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Daniel Goncalves is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Goncalves has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Shorey off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
And that's the end of the fight! Daniel Goncalves showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Goncalves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
