Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Titus Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Duran Duran! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Duran tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Duran sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Duran is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Johnson sitting and controlling from the half guard. Johnson is trying to control. Duran wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Johnson looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Duran is trying to get back to full guard. Johnson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Johnson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Titus Johnson just wasn't active enough. Johnson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Duran napping and manages to drive through into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Duran is not content to let Johnson control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duran is trying to control Johnson's posture but Johnson avoids it. Johnson is trying to get an arm triangle but Duran is defending well. Johnson fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Duran managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Johnson.
Johnson has hold of Duran's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Duran seems comfortable defending it but Johnson has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Duran is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Duran is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Johnson couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Titus Johnson!
