PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Boxer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Silva!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Silva pushes Boxer back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Silva is looking for a takedown.
Silva throws a punch but it's blocked by Boxer.
Boxer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Silva misses with some punches.

Silva is trying to trip Boxer. He has hold of a leg but Boxer is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Silva persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Boxer preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Silva throws a big right hand that misses.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Silva advances position into side control!
Silva controls the position.
Silva's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Boxer managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Silva.
Boxer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silva on the ground.

A lull in the action here.

Silva tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
An elbow from Silva crashes against the mat.
Silva tries to score with some ground and pound. Boxer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Silva misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Silva lands a decent elbow from side control.

Silva decides to stand back up.

Boxer swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.

Silva pushes Boxer up against the cage in a clinch.

Silva scores with a nice hook to the head.
Boxer prevents the takedown attempt.
Silva is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Boxer is defending well.
Mike Boxer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roberto Silva.
Silva tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Boxer smiles and moves away.
Boxer keeps the fight on the outside.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Boxer misses with a jab, cross combination.
Boxer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Silva clinches with his opponent.
Silva looking to throw knees to the head but Boxer is blocking nicely.
Boxer wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Silva lands with a short shot to the head.
Still in the clinch, Silva scores with a nice short uppercut.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Silva.
Boxer is looking to break free of the clinch but Silva has double underhooks.
Silva is pushing Boxer up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Boxer takes a shot to the head.
Silva pushes Boxer back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Silva gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Silva dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Silva tries to clinch up but Boxer circles away and keeps his distance.

Boxer tries to keep at a distance but Silva has taken the fight into the clinch.

Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Boxer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Boxer throws a left and a right that both miss

and Silva counters with a shoot takedown. Boxer fights it but they end up in guard.
Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Silva loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Silva drops back looking for a leg! Boxer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boxer manages to kick Silva off! Silva jumps back into Boxer's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Boxer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Silva decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Boxer, up you get!

Silva softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Boxer dodges an elbow strike from Silva.
Silva tries to score a body lock takedown but Boxer shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Silva keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Boxer's efforts to push away.
Silva drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Boxer gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Boxer tries to break free but Silva pushes him back against the cage.
The referee calls for Silva to work.
Boxer is trying to force a seperation but Silva has the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Silva.
Silva lands a nice uppercut.
Silva jumps guard but Boxer turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Mike Boxer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roberto Silva.

Boxer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Silva is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Boxer to the mat. Boxer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Silva slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Silva pushes down on Boxer's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Boxer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Silva.
Silva has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva thows a huge punch but Boxer dodges it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


A slow jab from Boxer misses its intended target.

Silva gets the takedown into side control.
Silva lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Boxer down.

Silva is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Silva throws a strike aimed at the side of Boxer's head but Boxer avoids it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Silva has hold of Boxer's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Boxer seems comfortable defending it but Silva has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Boxer is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Boxer is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Silva couldn't care less - he's delighted!
