PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Adam Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Whissell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whissell comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rose Of Sharon kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, George Whissell!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Whissell there.

Whissell rushes Nelson and presses him up against the cage.
Whissell stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Whissell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nelson shoots in looking for a takedown. Whissell tries to sprawl out of it but Nelson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Whissell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Whissell swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Nelson.
Nelson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Nelson misses with a looping left.

Nelson drives through with a takedown into guard.

Whissell has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Nelson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Nelson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Nelson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Whissell explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Nelson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Nelson shoots for a takedown but Whissell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Nelson seems to be working for a kimura but Whissell defends the submission attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nelson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Nelson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Nelson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Whissell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Nelson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Whissell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Nelson but great work by Whissell.

George Whissell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Nelson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Whissell bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Nelson's head backwards.
Nelson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Whissell throws out the jab.

Nelson feints and as Whissell raises his hands in defense, Nelson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Nelson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Nelson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Whissell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Whissell is looking to advance position but Nelson won't allow it.

Whissell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Whissell controlling the pace for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Whissell prevents Nelson from getting the reversal.

I would just about give that final round to George Whissell.
I've got Whissell winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
