PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alistair Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vivek Sai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Overeem comes to the cage accompanied by LMFAO-sexy and i know it. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alistair Overeem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vivek Sai!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sai stuffs the takedown.
Some wild striking there from Overeem.
Sai keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alistair Overeem. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sai scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Alistair Overeem has been cut.
Overeem fails with an attempt to clinch.
Overeem looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Sai has closed the distance and engaged Overeem in a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Overeem tries to break the clinch but Sai is controlling the position.

Sai pushes off an throws an elbow but Overeem leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Sai has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Overeem avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Sai wants to break free but Overeem has control.
Sai avoiding damage as Overeem throws knees to the body.

Sai ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sai no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sai is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sai doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Overeem knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sai on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sai pushes Overeem off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Sai fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sai misses with a head kick.
No joy there for Sai, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sai tries for a takedown but Overeem sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Overeem fails to land the takedown.
Sai slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Sai prevents a body shot from Overeem.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Overeem misses with a punch to the body.
Sai is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Overeem pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Overeem trying to control the position but instead, Sai has worked for underhooks and has pushed Overeem into the cage.

Sai drags the fight down to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sai has his hands on Overeem's head, controlling the position.
Sai keeping moving, preventing Overeem from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sai moves into range and clinches up with Overeem.

Sai shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Overeem has Sai pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sai manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Overeem wants to break the clinch but can't.
Sai keeps control of Overeem as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sai tries to score a body lock takedown but Overeem shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Sai creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Sai lands with a short shot to the head.
Overeem drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sai pulls his leg out and moves away.
Alistair Overeem is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Overeem fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Sai throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Overeem wants to clinch but Sai slips to the side

A frustrated look appears on Sai's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Overeem is looking for a sweep. Sai is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sai looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sai looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Vivek Sai wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sai shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Overeem as he avoids it easily.

An inside leg kick from Overeem misses.

Sai moves into the clinch.

Sai pulls Overeem into guard.
Overeem wants to control from the top but Sai keeps moving.
Sai is pulling down on Overeem's head to control his posture.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Vivek Sai has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Sai misses with a wild combination.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Overeem is defended easily by Sai.
Overeem looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alistair Overeem seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sai lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Overeem circles away quickly and effectively.

Sai drives through and clinches with Overeem against the cage.
Sai wants to take the fight to the mat but Overeem manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Overeem.
Overeem tries to circle away but Sai has him pinned against the cage.
Sai is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Overeem pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Sai changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Overeem fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Alistair Overeem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vivek Sai.
Sai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Overeem avoids it really well and circles away.

Overeem keeps control of Sai as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Overeem is looking to break free of the clinch but Sai has double underhooks.
Sai wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Overeem has him pressed against the cage.

Sai using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Overeem has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sai decides to pull guard.

Sai is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sai is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Overeem has managed to free his arm - good work.

Sai decides to stand and escape the position.

Overeem shoots in for a takedown but Sai shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sai throws the kick towards the body but Overeem avoids it.
Overeem looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sai scores with a body shot.
Sai shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Overeem as he avoids it easily.
Sai shoots in looking for a takedown. Overeem tries to sprawl out of it but Sai keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Overeem manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sai throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Overeem stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sai shoots for a double leg takedown but Overeem sprawls well. He's pushed Sai's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sai gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Vivek Sai seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Sai manages to pull guard.
Sai wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Sai escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Overeem gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Alistair Overeem has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Vivek Sai is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Vivek Sai comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sai has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
