Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Mic Hael! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohamed al Hadj! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! al Hadj darts in and out, connecting with a jab. al Hadj wants to clinch up but Hael keeps it at a distance. al Hadj lets loose with a powerful body kick. Hael will feel that in the morning. al Hadj has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hael. al Hadj checks the leg kick. Hael thows a body shot but no joy. A chopping leg kick lands by Hael. al Hadj throws a combination. Hael tries to block but a couple of punches get through. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! al Hadj tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hael paws at him with a jab and circles away. Hael jabbing away but nothing is landing. A jab from Hael does it's job there. Mic Hael seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A nice inside leg kick there by Hael. That's going to slow al Hadj down. al Hadj on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Hael misses with a body shot.
Hael throws a jab but it's blocked by al Hadj. al Hadj takes one on the button. Hael misses with a looping left.
That's one minute gone in the round. al Hadj throws a body punch but Hael moves out of range. Hael misses with a straight left. al Hadj forces Hael back against the cage and clinches. al Hadj misses with an elbow strike.
Hael scores with a shot to the side of al Hadj's head. Hael pulls guard effortlessly. Hael looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! al Hadj has picked Hael up and slammed him! Hael can't keep hold of the triangle and al Hadj manages to pass to side control! Hael is positioning himself to get back to half guard. al Hadj working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. al Hadj wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hael keeps working. al Hadj working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hael is looking for a sweep. Hael sneaks back into half guard. Hael looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. al Hadj throwing shots but Hael is blocking nicely. al Hadj is thwarting Hael's attempts to control the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hael manages to get to full guard.
Hael wants to sweep here but al Hadj controlling him for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hael looking to control.
al Hadj missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Hael is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and al Hadj defends well. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Hael working a defensive guard here.
Hael wants to sweep here but al Hadj controlling him for the moment. al Hadj has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hael is proving hard to escape from. Hael is trying to control the position but al Hadj postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hael avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Hael isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. al Hadj stacks Hael on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by al Hadj! al Hadj throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Hael is looking to regain half guard here but al Hadj keeps moving and retains side control. Hael wants to control but al Hadj postures up. Hael manages to work his way to half guard, despite al Hadj's best efforts. Hael works his way to full guard. Good work. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Hael is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hael is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! al Hadj has his hands clasped together but Hael extends an breaks al Hadj's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Hael.
